Psalm 63

O God, You are my God,
earnestly I seek You;
my soul thirsts for You,
my body longs for You,
in a dry and weary land
where there is no water.
I have seen You in the sanctuary
and beheld Your power and Your glory.

Because Your love is better than life,
my lips will glorify You.
I will praise You as long as I live,
and in Your name I will lift up my hands.
My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods;
with singing lips my mouth will praise You.

On my bed I remember You;
I think of You through the watches of the night.
Because You are my help,
I sing in the shadow of Your wings.
My soul clings to You;
Your right hand upholds me.

Beautiful Simplicity

You claim to hold the answers
So strange I remember you
Hurled into your intellectual suicide
Of formulas and hollow rhetoric
Bullet points of spoon-fed consumption,
You spin on your carousels of confusion
And pirouette over simple truths;

Dimmer lights weren't meant to blind

A calloused heart will only leave you broken
Dance with your demons if you must,
The symphonic clang will fade like the rest

Let the downpour of the rain
Deluge your heart out of its cage
Follow the torrents to the joy you lost
Dive back to those simple things
That once flooded you with life

Curbed by the four walls of your demise
Was this the fairytale they prophesied?
We're up against a greater gale,
Your pockets are slowing you down

Filled with the stones of your contempt,
Raise your head above the cryptic words
Above the lies that lock your heart in stone

We are merely ephemeral,
Withered in a breath
Still, your dancing shadow haunts you

Your orderly chaos of rhyme and reason
Steals you with the bitter kiss of treason
A life-long guarantee of calculated ecstasy
A watered down, one two three philosophy;

You sketch out your own illusion of safety

Tell me, is it too late
'To find beauty in the things you desecrate'?
Come away, fly on your paper planes
Let us learn how to breathe
Beautiful simplicity;
Skip over the confining lines
You drew against your crimson skies
Let us learn how to taste
The sweetness of life,
Let us learn how to laugh again
Lest tomorrow never comes;

Let the downpour of the rain
Deluge your heart out of its cage.
